Sam Moradzadeh is a PhD student in Human-Computer Interaction at Penn State's College of Information Sciences and Technology's Wellbeing & Health Innovation (WHI). His research focuses on the intersection of Human-Centered AI and clinical healthcare.
Sam's dissertation work involves designing, building, and evaluating an AI-powered "teammate" to support clinicians in complex workflows. The motivation for this research is to understand how we can design AI systems that are not only effective but are also trusted and adopted by experts in high-stakes environments.
This grant is crucial for the quantitative phase of this research. Sam plans to use the Sawtooth Discover platform to design and deploy a large-scale, randomized controlled survey (an A/B test) to over 100 participants. This study will scientifically measure how different AI design features, specifically variations in the AI's "explainability" and "tone", directly impact a user's perceived trust, sense of risk, and behavioral intention to use the system. As part of this survey, he also plans to incorporate a prioritization exercise (using the MaxDiff capabilities) to identify which potential AI features users value most.
